Electric Car Ecosystem

Defining a strategy and user experience for future electric car infrastructure

Client: German auto maker

Role: Project lead/ Client management

It would be tough to find a part of the auto industry that isn't massively changing. This project was the kind of thing car guys dream about, unless you're also an old-fashioned auto exec, in which case the dream might feel more like a nightmare. We worked with an executive team to develop a long-term strategy for mainstream adoption of electric vehicles. The implications of changing drivetrains impacts everything from product to service, dealers and brand. Our work was scoped for a 10-15 year time span, which is ages in the tech community, but only 1.5 product cycles in the car world. Not a lot of time at all.

To get to full-readiness across the entire product and service ecosystem, we started by doing in-depth research with drivers, dealers, and experts from multiple industries. By combining an understanding of prospective buyer's expectations, stakeholder needs, and competitive benchmarking we were able to define a comprehensive vision including new services, go-to-market strategies, and principles for education, sales, product use and maintenance. We also developed key features, services, marketing, and capability requirements for near-term development.
