Wikireader
Product development for an offline wikipedia reader.
Client: Open Moko
Role: Senior Industrial Designer
Not every project needs a full strategic analysis and business case. The Wikireader was the result of a fun brainstorm for simple products that embraced Open Moko's open-source principles. Like a low-tech, earth-only version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this little gadget held all of wikipedia on a mini-SIM card. It's intended use was to give people access to information in areas where connectivity was either unavailable or unreliable. Schools in developing nations were an ideal use-case.
We specced purposefully low-tech monochrome touch screens and housed them in a simple, durable housing that was just a touch asymmetrical, just like Open Moko.
